Circus Life

These abstract works, which incorporate varying degrees of figuration, draw inspiration from the circus that is life. Although the concept of the circus is constantly evolving, particularly in recent times, this take on the circus is both conventional and fantastical. It features staple characters as well as those not commonly associated with traditional notions of the circus. From a ringmaster´s red face and outstretched arm (resembling a populist politician addressing the crowds), to a shaman performing a healing ritual, to contortionists and flying beasts, as well as the quintessential clown and a hallucinogenic fairy, this series is a celebration of the odd and eccentric while also being a critique of contemporary life. In this fast-paced, capitalist society, entertainment and spirituality often overlap, and the circus takes over.
